Congratulations to our young people who will be celebrating the Sacrament of Confirmation this weekend! Please join me in praying that the Holy Spirit will move powerfully in the lives of these young men and women. Many thanks to all who have helped prepare them to receive the Gift of the Holy Spirit, especially Greg Gilbertson, Fr. Charlie, and Tim and Mary Pomietlo.
Next weekend is First Communion at St. Charles. Please continue to pray for our first communicants and their families. Special prayer cards are available in the narthex. May each of us be renewed in our love for Jesus in the holy Eucharist as we celebrate First Communion!
As was announced last weekend, I’ve been named pastor of St. Bronislava Parish in Plover. These past five years that I’ve been privileged to serve as your parish priest have truly been a blessing and a great joy for me. I am grateful to God and to all of you for my time here at St. Charles and St. Peter’s. While I’m certainly sad to be leaving, at the same time I’m excited to see what the Holy Spirit has in store me at my new assignment. (I’ll have to brush up on my Polish!)
I’m also leaving knowing that you’ll be in fine hands with Msgr. Michael Gorman. Msgr. Gorman is a wonderful priest who will do an excellent job as your pastor. He brings with him a wealth of experience having served the Diocese of La Crosse in a variety of capacities. I’ve always been struck by Msgr. Gorman’s gentleness and keen pastoral sense. He also has a great knowledge of the church’s liturgy, having served for many years as the Bishop’s Master of Ceremonies. (I have fond memories of serving under him as a seminarian at big diocesan events!)
Some have asked about Fr. Charlie. I’m happy to report that he is staying on in his current position as associate pastor and chaplain to the Notre Dame/McDonell Schools. I will certainly miss working with him – and riding Harley with him! On this “Good Shepherd Sunday” please keep all of us priests in your prayers. And pray for those men whom the Lord is calling to the priesthood, especially our seminarians. May the Lord bless us with more priestly vocations!
