October, 1883

Bishop Killian Flash, of the LaCrosse Diocese appointed Father Theodore Hegeman, assistant at Notre Dame, to organize a parish on Stanley Hill. It was to be called St. Charles Borromeo Church. Father Goldsmith, pastor of Notre Dame, assisted in the building of the Church.

1884

The corner stone of the Church building was laid. Among those present were Bishop Flash and Father Goldsmith. The Church was finished and dedicated the following year. Father Hegeman was appointed the first pastor of St. Charles. The Church was a splendid brick structure with a seating capacity of 600. The interior was attractively finished and had three beautiful altars which were gifts of the Jacob Leinenkugel family. The organ donated to the parish by Louis Zimmerman.

Our Heritage

1884-85

First unit of St. Charles was built. Father Theodore Hegeman was the first Pastor. The three beautiful Altars of the newly erected Church were a gift of Jacob Leinenkugel.

1886

The first parochial school for St. Charles was opened in September of this year with the Sisters of Notre Dame in charge.

1907

More property bought for the congregation with a beautiful large House which Father Metzler purchased and later donated to the parish and was used for many years as a Rectory.

1913-18

The Church was enlarged by a new Cross Section, adding a larger Sanctuary. Father Kaluza was then the Pastor.

1928

The old Grade School was inadequate and a New 8 Classroom parochial school was built under the able leadership and generosity of Msgr. John L. Kaiser.

1945

Under the pastorate of Father Joseph Eisenmann the interior of the Church was renovated with new floors and new benches. To add to the beauty of the Church the sanctuary was entirely renovated. Three new beautiful Altars were installed. The high altar was donated by Mrs. Rose Casper and Mrs. Susan Mayer. The Blessed Virgin Altar was donated by the Mrs. Albert Nunke estate and St. Joseph?s Altar was a gift of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Durch.

1954

A lovely new Rectory was built and former one was tactfully arranged and rebuilt to serve the good Sisters as a convent.

1958-59

The school built in 1928 no longer could accommodate the growing number of children in our parish, hence a new 6 room addition to the school was erected with larger and new kitchen and cafeteria facilities.

1962-65

The building of a New Catholic Central High School for the three Parishes in Chippewa Falls. Approximate cost $1,200,000.00. Our share $462,000.00. The School Sisters of Notre Dame will continue to teach in the new High School. In addition we are very fortunate to obtain the services of the Christian Brothers to teach the boys.
