Welcome to St. Charles Borromeo!
Welcome Father Ed Shuttleworth
I'd like to tell you a bit about myself. I'm the oldest of three
children born to Mark and Mary Shuttleworth. Our family
moved from Pennsylvania to the rural Tomah area when I
was going into the eighth grade. Mom passed away in
January of 2010 and Dad still lives on the family farm. After
graduating from the Tomah High School in 1982, I went to
the seminary at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul and
received a BA in English. From there, I attended the major
seminary at the Catholic University of America in
Washington, DC where I earned my MA in Theology. I was
ordained a priest by Bishop John Paul on May 19, 1990.
As a priest I spent my first five years as associate pastor
at St. Patrick's in Mauston and St. Michael's in Wausau.
While in Wausau I was also chaplain to Newman High
School and St. Matthew's Middle School. My first assignment
as pastor was to Holy Rosary, Lima to which was eventually
added St. Mary's, Durand and Sacred Heart, Mondovi. (It
was there that I got some experience with multiple parishes
and three schools!) After six years I was assigned to St.
Joseph's Parish in Prescott where I spent ten years. While in
Prescott I earned a Doctor of Ministry from Aquinas Institute
of Theology in St. Louis. This past year I've been serving as
pastor of St. Patrick's Parish, Sparta.
My hobbies and interests are varied - from deer hunting to
cooking to classical music. In recent years I've taken up
motorcycle riding. I have a Suzuki Boulevard 800. So, if there
are any bikers out there, I'd love to get out on the road with
you! I do a lot of reading - mostly theology - and occasionally
teach some adjunct graduate courses. Movies, theatre, and
the visual arts are also things I enjoy. I'm more of a baseball
fan than football, but I do enjoy watching the Packers now
and then.
Of course, the biggest love and joy of my life is the
priesthood. I am both honored and humbled to be your parish priest. Please be patient as
I get my bearings - and start learning all your names!
